How to Apply

How to Apply
The Summer Leadership Academy writing class is one of the ways Kid Power empowers youth to become informed and engaged advocates for change in their own lives.

Eligible organizations should begin the MAP process by submitting a letter of inquiry online. The next LOI deadline is January 9, 2014. For time-sensitive or out-of-cycle requests (executive transition, mergers, and financial planning, for example), please be in touch with Meyer staff at map@meyerfdn.org.

Before You Apply

  1. Please read the MAP guidelines and review what you will need to apply before preparing your request.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the online application process. When we open the application period, you will find a link to start a new application here.

MAP LOI Instructions

MAP Online Application

The online application for the June 6, 2013 deadline is closed. The link to the application will reopen in November for the January 9, 2014 deadline.

Your MAP LOI, which should be no more than three pages, should include:

  • A brief assessment of where the organization is in its development and the top management and leadership challenges it faces. As you write this section, you may consider the organization's history of growth or expansion, its financial sustainability, any recent efforts at planning or assessment, the role of the board of directors, and other factors that may contribute to the need for management assistance.
  • The organizational issue you would address with a MAP grant, how this issue affects the organization's ability to achieve its mission, and the outcomes you are hoping to achieve with the grant. Be sure to describe how you identified the issue and how the board was involved. While your organization may need assistance in several areas, please focus your MAP request on a single issue and a closely related and realistic set of outcomes.
  • A description of the proposed project. Discuss how the proposed management assistance project would make your organization stronger and more sustainable.

The letter should be signed by the executive director and the board chair.

After Submitting the LOI

A MAP program officer will review your submission within one month of receiving the request. If the project meets our criteria for funding and we have sufficient funds remaining in the budget, Foundation staff will schedule a site visit or meeting with your organization's executive director and key board and staff to discuss the proposed project. After the meeting, the program officer will advise you on whether to submit a proposal. A full MAP proposal will include information on the consultant you've selected and a project work plan and budget.

If the Foundation approves the grant, the program officer will notify the executive director, usually within three months after the LOI was submitted.
