As senior director for program and community, Karen FitzGerald supervises Meyer’s program directors for Maryland and Virginia, and manages the Foundation’s DC portfolio of grantees. She also served as the lead program officer for the $6-million Children and Family Capacity-Building Initiative, which provided capacity-building grants and other support to a targeted group of former Freddie Mac Foundation grantees. Before joining the Meyer Foundation staff in 2001, she worked for Enterprise Community Investment, which syndicates Low-Income Housing Tax Credits to finance affordable rental housing throughout the country.
Karen is a member of the DC Local Initiatives Support Corporation’s Local Advisory Committee, and a member of the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers Affordable Housing Action Team. She is a former board member of the Neighborhood Funders Group, and served as co-chair of the Early Care and Education Funders Collaborative and the Partnership for Prince George’s County.
Karen earned her BA from Tufts University and an MBA from Yale University.
