Aisha Alexander Joins Meyer as Senior Director, Strategy and Equity
In recent updates, I’ve shared how board and staff at the Meyer Foundation have continued working toward full implementation of our strategic plan. To advance that plan, we’ve hired talented individuals over the last few months. With the program team now fully staffed (as of mid- June), I am thrilled to announce the newest addition to the Meyer team: Aisha Alexander will join Meyer in the newly-created role of senior director for strategy and equity, effective June 4.
In this position, Aisha will bring her social sector leadership and social justice expertise to Meyer to integrate and ensure adherence to concepts and practices grounded in racial equity in all external and internal areas of our work. Initially, she will primarily focus her efforts on providing strategic and implementation guidance to Meyer as we continue to build our capacity for racial equity across our organization and in our programmatic efforts and, eventually, she will be a resource to our many grantee partners, providing technical assistance on their racial equity efforts.
Aisha comes to Meyer from KaBOOM! – a national nonprofit dedicated to bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives of all kids, particularly those growing up in poverty – where she most recently served as the director of thought leadership. Formerly, Aisha served as the operations director for the City of Charlotte’s Department of Neighborhood and Economic Development, where she was responsible for the strategic vision and implementation plan for the city’s initiatives to advance equitable neighborhoods. With her leadership, the city transformed the way it engages communities of color, and designs programs, initiatives, and funding streams that support neighborhood residents as the lead change agents in their communities. Aisha has also served as a social sector consultant for over 10 years, working with social justice organizations to develop and fund their strategies, and advising funders on investments that support community organizing work led by people of color.
Aisha earned her bachelor’s degree in English and early childhood education from Hampton University, and studied social work with a concentration in community and policy practice at Temple University. She is a board member of Dream Defenders, a nonprofit that organizes and trains youth in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods to lead social change within their communities. She lives in the Greater Washington area with her partner and young daughter.
Aisha is passionate about helping to build a Greater Washington region where every child can develop and pursue their dreams, and every parent, caregiver, and community has the resources to support their pursuit.
We welcome Aisha to our team during this exciting time of growth and opportunity!
