Barbara J. Krumsiek
A globally-recognized leader in sustainable investing, Barbara Krumsiek’s professional background spans four decades in the asset management field, including most recently as the CEO and Chair of Calvert Investments, Inc. During her tenure at Calvert from 1997-2014, Krumsiek helped to triple the firm’s assets under management and developed the Calvert Women’s Principles, a global code of conduct adopted by the U.N. Global Compact and U.N. Women as the basis for the U.N. Women’s Empowerment Principles. She additionally served as co-chair of the U.N. Environment Programme Finance Initiative from 2010-2012, a partnership between the United Nations and 200 global financial institutions mandated to develop and promote the links between sustainability and financial performance. Earlier in her career, Krumsiek was a managing director of Alliance Capital Management L.P. (AB), and held senior positions in the investment operations of Equitable Life where she began her career in 1974.
In 2016, Ms. Krumsiek was appointed an independent director of Arabesque Asset Management, London. In 2015, Ms. Krumsiek was named a senior industry fellow at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, where she contributes to strategy and research at the Women’s Leadership Institute. Also in 2016, Ms. Krumsiek was appointed as an advisor to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investment Committee.
She serves on the Investment Committee of the Meyer Foundation, and chairs the Investment Committee for the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC. Non-profit board service includes the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital and The DC Public Library Foundation. He prior board service includes an eight-year tenure on the Board of Pepco Holdings, Inc., 17 years on the board of Calvert Mutual Funds and the Calvert Foundation, and service as the chair of the board of Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Company. She is past chair of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, and past chair of the board of the Meyer Foundation.
Among her honors, Krumsiek was awarded the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mutual Fund Industry Awards. She received Columbia University Business School’s Botwinick Prize in Business Ethics in 2012 and is a Washington Business Hall of Fame Laureate. She was named in Ethisphere’s 2015 list of the "100 Most Influential in Business Ethics."
Graduating Phi Beta Kappa with university honors and honors in Mathematics from Rutgers University, Krumsiek holds a Master of Science in Mathematics from New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences.
Ms. Krumsiek serves on the Meyer Foundation Investment Committee. She served on the Foundation's board from 2002-2014, serving as board chair from 2010-2013.
