The board of directors of the Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation has elected Bo Menkiti, Founder and CEO of The Menkiti Group and Keller Williams Capital Properties, to a three-year term on the Foundation’s board, beginning in November 2015.
The Menkiti Group, which Mr. Menkiti founded in 2004, focuses on strengthening neighborhoods through the strategic development, management, and disposition of real estate in urban markets. Over the past 10 years the Menkiti Group has invested over $140 million in DC’s emerging neighborhoods, developed over 600,000 square feet of residential and commercial property, and assisted over 900 families in purchasing their first homes.
Prior to forming the Menkiti Group and Keller Williams Capital Properties, Mr. Menkiti served as Chief Operating Officer of College Summit, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the college enrollment rate of low-income students.
Mr. Menkiti has held numerous civic and community leadership roles in the District, including serving as president of the District of Columbia Association of Realtors in 2013. He currently serves on the boards of City First Bank of DC, Dance Place, and DC Water. Earlier this year, Mr. Menkiti launched the Capital Properties Menkiti Group Foundation, an organization that focuses its resources on serving the diverse social needs in the Greater Washington region.
“Bo Menkiti shares the Meyer Foundation’s commitment to investing in solutions that build a thriving Greater Washington community and increase opportunity for people who are economically vulnerable,” says Joshua B. Bernstein, chair of the Meyer Foundation’s board of directors. “His expertise in real estate and community development as well as his nonprofit leadership experience will bring many valuable perspectives to our board’s work. We are honored that he has agreed to serve.”
Founded in 1945, the Meyer Foundation is one of the oldest and largest private grantmaking foundations focused on supporting nonprofits in the DC region. For more information, visit www.meyerfoundation.org.
