Thomas W. Chapman
Dr. Thomas W. Chapman is president and CEO for The HSC Foundation, providing leadership and significant involvement in community service for the nonprofit health care industry. The HSC Foundation is the parent corporation for three subsidiaries: the HSC Pediatric Center (formerly The Hospital for Sick Children); Health Services for Children with Special Needs, Inc. (HSCSN); and HSC Home Care, LLC. The parent corporation provides overall governance and management of the system and its subsidiaries. The HSC Foundation also provides funds in support of special needs populations. The subsidiaries directly serve individuals with special health care needs, families and communities in the Washington metropolitan area.
Dr. Chapman has more than 25 years of experience working in the public and private health sector in the Caribbean. He has participated in contract management, management training, strategic planning and resource development efforts in Barbados, Belize, the Bahamas, and St. Thomas Virgin Islands.
His previous positions include senior associate vice president for network development and professor of health services management and policy at The George Washington University Medical Center; CEO of The George Washington University Hospital; adjunct professor at Harvard School of Public Health; president of the Greater Southeast Healthcare System; and president of the Greater Southeast Community Hospital. He has also served as a consultant to the Ministry of Health in Barbados and the Bahamas, and the Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Hospitals in Barbados and the Bahamas. He developed a US-based, short-term continuing education program for Barbadian nurses, is a patron of the Barbadian Nurses Society, and has supervised a number of Caribbean executives receiving health administration degrees during their administrative fellowships.
He currently serves on the boards of Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic, Goodwill of Greater Washington (chair), and the Institute for Health Improvement in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Dr. Chapman authored a book in 2008, Management Learning Experiences of CEOs.
